Optis has completed a network upgrade project at NTUA

Optis implemented a project at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), which concerns the upgrading and expansion of its telecommunication infrastructure and networks. The project involves the construction of two distinct environments. The first concerns the creation of a virtual pool with six new servers and a hybrid storage system of unified services (NAS & SAN), with more than 120TB of useful capacity. Technologies such as Automated Storage Tiering and Fast Cache were used to better use and service existing capacities. Interfacing the systems to the storage system was accomplished by a pair of highly available fiber optic hubs. The network interconnection of the above systems, both with each other and with the existing computing center, was achieved using low bandwidth distributors (<1μs) and an interface speed of 10GBit. The second environment concerns the creation of a new High Performance Computing Grid. Access to this is given through the NTUA cloud service, where direct access to the centrally installed computing grid infrastructure (grid) has been integrated, giving all researchers of the polytechnic community the ability to run applications (CAE, engineering simulations). The interconnection of the grid nodes is achieved with infiniband technology distributors, 200ns bandwidth and 40Gbps interfaces. The
